There is no question that Tim Tebow is a winner. He won two
National Championships, AP Player of the year, the Heisman, NCCAP QB of the
year, and two SEC Championships all at Florida. Once he took over the starting
job in Denver, the Broncos are 5-1. Tebow deserves a ton of credit, but it is
unfair of the media to give him all the credit. Let’s look at the other factors
that have contributed to the Broncos recent success. First, in wins over Miami,
Kansas City, San Diego, and the New York Jets, the Denver defense has given up
a combined 51 points. That’s an average of 12.7 points per game. In their last
6 games, the defense has a combined 24 sacks and 5 interceptions. Standout
rookie linebacker, Von Miller, has 57 tackles and an impressive 10.5 sacks.
Elvis Dumervil has 5.5 sacks in his last 5 games. Lately, the Denver defense
has been a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. Next, the Broncos running game needs
to be acknowledged. In Tebow’s six starts, the Broncos have rushed for nearly
1100 yards, averaging 182 yards per game. Let it be known that Tebow has 455 of
these rushing yards. However, Willis McGahee has found new life this season, stacking
up 775 yards and 3 touchdowns. 391 of those yards have come in his last 5
games, all wins by the Broncos. In Denver wins this season, McGahee has 105
carries for 495 yards and 3 touchdowns. In losses, McGahee has 57 carries for
283 yards and 0 touchdowns. When Willis is a big part of the offense, the
Broncos win games. So while Tim Tebow is doing an excellent job winning games
and not turning the ball over, he is not the only reason the Broncos are back
in the playoff hunt. The defense has slowly started to become a force. The
running game currently ranks 1st in the NFL. If the Broncos continue
to win, it will be because of a team effort and not just Tim Tebow.
